We are delighted that you took time out to visit us. We want to encourage you to browse our website and to come to our services regularly so that you can be exposed to our broader ministry. Our display in the foyer will also assist you.
Our name ‘Christ Baptist Church’ tells you something of who we are.
We are under ‘Christ’ as the only head of the church. CBC does not belong to it’s members or it’s leaders but to Christ who reigns supreme in all things. Our desire is that all those in fellowship with us will reach their fullest potential in Christ alone.
We are ‘Baptist’ in that we voluntarily associate with the wider Baptist family around the world comprising of more than 130 million members in the Baptist World Alliance alone. Our association is based on a common set of principles that we hold dear. We are proud of our roots that date back to the 1500’s and will remain Baptist unless they depart from the faith that has once and for all been entrusted to the saints. We also partner by choice with other like-minded churches that are not Baptist.
We are ‘Church’. The church is Christ’s designation for the assembly of people who are called by His name. As such our course has been charted by God, our destiny has been planned by God, our members have been chosen by God, our purposes have been defined by God.
The first years were difficult as the start of any work normally is. During the first 27 years 8 different pastors served the congregation over a period of 18 years in total. During this time the church bought the 7th day Adventist church that was situated at 42 Voortrekker Street. Later a small hall and a few classrooms were added. This property was sold in 1994 to Suidskool. It was in 1989 that CBC started to evolve more and more into a team ministry as various roll players joined the church on a full-time basis.
Samaria Mission became a ministry of CBC in 1989 as well. In 1993 we purchased the present property from the town council.
In 1996 we started to build phase 1 of the present facilities and moved onto these premises in March 1997.
It was in the same year that we started Christ Seminary. In January 2004 phase 2 of our building was completed.
